PCD week begins with Snow!

snow-scene-finish11Does this picture look like a road near you?!

It is snowing and the UK has come to a halt.  I am not sure that accounted for the low attendance at the Business Writing course today (that was in fact better than I expected) but did account for the cancelling of the BT recruitment fair tonight.

It is a strange week, Personnel Career Development (PCD) week.  The focus is on softer skills but also about honing techniques for some of the more challenging interview programs that will be facing us (hopefully) in later months.  Tomorrow is a session on assessment centres and Wednesday on Case Studies i.e. the right way to answer the question: “So how many pigs are there in China?” … my guess is not to say: “I will just check on Wikipedia!” – the latter apparently being a serious no-no.

The blogging world has increased in the last few days with three new to the community. Support your local blog and visit these three sites from fellow MBAers. One, Two, and Three !

Fog snow and mountains ..

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Today the weather is quite foggy and cold.  Together with this and one of the lads on the course bringing in his DaKine bag makes me pine somewhat for the snow and mountains.  I only discovered mountain life properly a few years ago and have since been fortunate to have spent many weeks in their company.  No chance of heading out this year but that is fine as the MBA continues to surprise and delight (Operations will be proud!)

Samir Blog: Hubble Telescope Image

Hubble Telescope Image

The first week of the second term is over already. Without getting too philosophical, time marches on a pace and the MBA journey continues.  Much as the life of the Hubble Telescope, where time is really just another concept, will soon be at an end, so will the course.  For some I am sure that will be a great relief and for others a sad time.

My fellow students from places such as the USA or Europe are feeling much richer this term, do to the exchange rates, so are doing their best to prop up English retail and service industrys’ – clothes shopping and bar hopping!

It is great to see and nice that the bonds formed last term, socially, have been maintained and enhanced into this new term.

Now that I have a bit of time on my hands, I thought I would tweak the blog website a little.  I have added a “tag cloud”, a calender and your recent comments – this is to try and encourage you guys to comment more!

Feedback welcome and if you want to do this for yourself, my company entiatech will be happy to arrange.

Other blog type news is that we will soon be appearing on the Warwick Business School website – must be moving up in the world! Link here
